Join other primary and secondary school teachers from Kigali and surrounding areas who are interested in learning more about climate change and climate policy while collaborating to integrate climate topics in their lessons.
This workshop is being organized through a collaboration of Praxis Education and the Green Protectors, which is a Rwandan, female youth-led climate change and environmental protection NGO. The workshop is being hosted at the International School of Kigali (see Google Maps location here).
Throughout the morning, Nathan will lead teachers through a workshop using the En-Roads Climate Solutions Simulator, a platform developed by Climate Interactive and MIT’s Sloan Business School. The En-Roads Simulator was built (and is regularly updated) using the latest and most reliable climate science research and models; it helps users to visualize the causes and impacts of greenhouse gas emissions, and it allows users to quickly and simply model various climate policy solutions. It is a powerful learning tool regarding climate change and climate policy. It is also a powerful pedagogical tool that teachers can use with students.
After lunch the focus will shift to working, collaborating and sharing together as we consider how to integrate learning about climate issues into units and lessons in our respective schools. The goal is for you to leave the workshop with more knowledge about climate change and climate policy solutions, and to walk away with some ideas for climate-related lessons in your own classroom. We also hope the workshop can be the beginning of a support network of teachers interested in climate education.
